Got told today by a coworker, with my boss cc'd that something I suggested (which would streamline everyone's work) isn't high priority. But I suspect he feels that way because he feels like he'd have to redo some work to make the idea functional. I've already done that work, it would just need some testing. But now I'm in a difficult spot. If I keep trying to test this when it's been declared a waste of time, then I look like a bad employee and team member. And if I fight him on this, I ruin the "friendly" atmosphere in the lab. I'm relatively new to the team, while this colleague has been here around 10 years and has a semi managerial role. Because of health issues, he was put on more computer heavy tasks and that ended up developing into project management. My issue, though, is that he isn't my boss but is acting like he is. Especially by publicly taking me off a project that HE sees useless. Mind you, these kinds of projects were exactly the reason I got hired. It's just a very unpleasant situation to be in. Honestly I'm still planning to test my methods, just not when he's in. And if they work, I'll use them to make my own work more streamlined. In the meantime, I'm not sure how to keep resententment from building. Like this was a major overstep. I doubt my boss will really do anything about it because he trusts the judgment of people he knows well.
