Student leadership. ASB. Student Council. Yes, it sounds very professional! The very words resonate a group of bookish, task-oriented teachers' pets/nerds running around a classroom trying to get things done. (I mean no offense if any of those words apply to you. I am a self-proclaimed nerd. But also a very indignant one.)
But guess what? at my school, our ASB is a joke. Or at least, to anyone who is in ASB. There are a handful of boys, all of whom are equally in love with games and being thoroughly unproductive. I'm not trying to be discriminatory. In fact, there is this group of girls who make posters in light, unreadable pastel and think they are so superior to everyone else. In our ASB we have the rule that when someone bangs the gavel, everyone must be silent because the ASB leaders are making an announcement. For some reason, some people (read: a good majority) think that they are above that rule and just keep on talking. It sounds petty, but it gets VERY frustrating after months of the same occurrence.
I very much hate our ASB. When it gets loud the gavel is banged; but no one really listens to it, so the banging just adds to the noise. It's infuriating.
