Parentified children

If you don't know what it means for a child to become parentified, look it up, please. These role reversals happen constantly and they're not good for the children or the adults involved.

I guarantee you, any child who never messes up or gets in trouble is living in nonstop, health-destroying anxiety. Making mistakes is a normal part of learning and growth. A child who isn't doing that has already been made to feel terrified of anything less than absolute perfection because they've learned that's what their parent needs of them. The pressure shouldn't be on the kid to perform and overfunction for their parent. If anything, the parent should be motivated to shape up to give the child stability, good role modeling, hope, and yes, even a little JOY in life!

For most people the decision to have a child is born out of self interest (aka greed), but once you lay eyes on a newborn child it's supposed to wake you the fuck up. You’re not the only person in the situation and you are definitely not the most important one.

If you're a parentified child like I was and am, I'm really sorry.

And if you're a parent who thinks it's okay or even good to guilt your kid into superhuman levels of conduct and performance...yeah, listen to a couple of YouTube videos about this if nothing else. You'll find out differently, VERY quickly.
