Am I in the wrong for being a furry

whenever i show the slighest interest in animals my friends scream FURRY!! I mean i am one.. but its not an acknowledgement. It slips out their mouths like an insult meant to redicule me. Cant even imagine what theyll do if they know if i like beastars.. like.. is it wrong for me to have an interest?? Is someone reading a manga with a humanoid virgin wolf have an existential crisis gonna harm anybody?? I dont think so! Maybe they scream one word, but they try to make sure everybody in the area hears it... im ashamed for being a furry. Kind of. But i cant control that.. with how society treats us, of course i fear my classmates being aware. I fear their expressions. Their words. I know i should express my discomfort, but its been brushed off. My body language, and i do tell them to stop? But all i get is a 'chill out its just a joke! Or 'sorry' but that apology is half hearted while they smirk and laugh. I cant be myself.
