From Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress and a presidential candidate, to Mary Kenner, who invented a sanitary belt despite facing racial discrimination, these women broke barriers and inspired future generations. Figures like Wangari Maathai, the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize for her environmental activism, Jane Bolin, the first Black woman to practice law in the U.S., and Fannie Lou Hamer, a civil rights leader advocating for Black voting rights, exemplify resilience and leadership. Additionally, Mary Eliza Mahoney paved the way for Black women in healthcare, and Daisy Bates fought for integration and civil rights through journalism and activism.

These trailblazing women’s stories have often been overlooked in mainstream history but are now recognized for their profound impact.
