USDA Ending Hunger Survey

The USDA under Trump will end it's long standing annual food insecurity survey, calling it redundant, costly, politicized, & extraneous. One head of an anti-hunger organization stated that without this annual report, there will be no clear lens on the scale of hunger in America and how to prevent it.

For an anecdotal report I can help them out. Hunger in America is likely getting worse from what I've seen. I'm broke AF but am able to maintain by going to places that sell basic food cheap like Aldi Supermarket. Over the last couple of months there's been a drastic change at the place. Where the parking lot used to be sparsely filled with "decent-looking" early to mid 2020's compact & and sub compact sedans w/ a few work truck based SUVs like Suburban or Broncos in the mix, the parking lot is now filled up whatever time of day with newer model Honda CRVs & clones of it from the other car brands.

The store that was once easy to get around in has traffic jams on every aisle of people trying to save a buck shopping at Aldi instead of the Whole Foods, or Costco which offers no great savings without a larger outlay of money upfront for bulk purchases which is a problem if your finances are not flowing as freely as before. The new folks that have "lowered their standards" to shop at Aldi still try to keep up appearance though, they always refuse to take your offered quarter for their cart they won't be getting back otherwise for handing the cart off to you instead of taking it back to the cart station. This has added even more savings in my pocket of about $3 so far. That'll pay for 1 gallon of regular gas for my lawn mower, and I can get 3 cuts off of it.

So yeah, if the secure middle class are getting tight financially & worried, but have some room to fall, then folks that don't will be going hungry for sure. But since there'll be no more recording of this, it'll be like a tree falling in the forest with no one around to hear it.
