Can I ask ? Why do you believe that ? I mean I get that the gouvernement lies to us but countries never agree on anything and the eart being round is pretty much universally agreed upon+ what would the gouvernement gain from lying about that ? Doesn't change my rent or the taxes we pay anonymous 9 hours ago
^ to add, the soviets were kicking our asses in space travel. They got into orbit before us, and even sent a damn lander to Venus before anyone. It even sent back data despite their accident and its environment. Yet, they conceded to America when we claimed we landed on space. Why? How did the USSR benefit by conceding to America in the 60s? You gonna claim that Borris Spassky somehow benefited by being the loser of one of the greatest underdog stories too?
If you don't know: Queen's Gambit.
Bobby took on a rigged Russian system. They'd intentionally tie in tournaments to try and beat him on points. He'd have to play every game to win. Bro in 1972 still ended up getting a shot at the WC, didn't bother playing the first two games and by all means was badly behind when he played Borris Spassky's best opening: The Queen's Gambit. He demolished Spassky so badly that even Spassky clapped, and Fischer wasn't known for the Queen's Gambit. Esp nothing like Spassky. He became the first American WC unless you count Paul Morphy who is like an unofficial WC.
Not even Magnus has pulled off what Fischer did and Magnus was WC for over a decade IIRC. Even Kasparov holds Fischer in high regard despite what Fischer thinks, and Anya Taylor-Joy a noted feminist played a female character based on Fischer even though Fischer very openly hated women.
We went to the moon. The soviets lost.
