I once told someone this: Because I've never been pretty, guys never brought me their A game. I was lucky: They spoke to me like they thought of me. It was easy to see the low value they saw me as.The person I was telling this to said to me "You were lucky you over valued yourself". I started to say I didn't think of it as overvalueing myself - then I STOPPED. I realized the right answer was "Thank you for letting me know you think of it that way."
