NEVER DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE AS A CAREER

Find a job that you tolerate and that you can feel proud of. Don’t do something you hate either but find the things that you love and do them as a HOBBY not a career.

Why?! You may be asking everyone tells you to do what you love. Well I believed that too until I got jobs doing things I thought I would love that did nothing but burn me out and kill my passion. When you’re at work you will become burnt out and disgruntled with it. Maybe there is exceptions to the rule and you will hate the thing you once loved.

I loved aviation until I became a gate and ramp agent. I used to love plane spotting and loved being at the airport. I even loved being delayed and long layovers watching all the different planes take off and land. Now…. I absolutely despise being anywhere near a airport. I was spat on. Called all kinds of horrible names. I was overworked. Underpaid. Toxic work culture. Toxic management. Customers taking their anger out on me.

So what did I do? Silly me I had enough collage hours to become a substitute teacher and eventually got my teaching degree. I always enjoyed working with children and when I was in school I admired my teachers. I got good grades and really even enjoyed school despite me pretending to hate it. Again… HATED the job. Not paid shit. Dealing with kids that had zero respect and parents who blamed me for their kids bad behavior. Constant drama between the teachers. Again I was burnt out and disgruntled.

Became a school bus driver. That was even worse. Some of the people who drive school buses are the meanest most nasty people you could meet. The same thing dealing with bad kids and parents but WORSE. Driving 70-90 kids screaming and yelling.

I moved on. I loved watching cops. NCIS. Blue Bloods. Law and Order. Jail. Any law enforcement show you can imagine I’ve watched it. Nobody can prepare you for the blood. The gore. The way people will treat you. The again catty behavior between officers. The long paperwork and overtime and training and political bullshit.

Do what you LOVE as a hobby or part time. I promise you’ll be happier that way. Because doing what you LOVE burns you out. I got a more mundane job. Do I get disgruntled? Sure. But it doesn’t kill my passion for selling insurance or being a store manager which have been my past two jobs.

Having something you love as a career you’re murdering your passion. You will end up hating it more then life itself. I still can’t stand being at a airport. I still can’t stand having to go to school for my kids.
