My parents are always on my opposite side

One day at work, a very rude and old customer came in to make a purchase. The first thing he did was to call me out for being fat. I held in my anger and talked with him to make the purchase. I felt my eye twitch and my blood boiling. When i told my mom about this she said that people who point out your flaws want you to be a better person. Fuck that bullshit. I think that customer was just straight up rude. I did scold back by telling him that he should just mind his own business instead of my appearance in a professional manner. Apparently my mom said that i am in the wrong? I told her this person was being rude to me and that i should have not replied to his comment. Isnt this called sticking up for myself? I didnt yell or criticize back that this customer, i didnt give him the middle finger, i didnt have a bad attitude. I kept my cool and now im in the wrong?
