It’s feels super ridiculous to say that Pixar’s Elio may be coming close to being one of my favourite animations despite being very very hated and also severely short on marketing. Like, Elio isn’t a masterpiece at all, but that’s one thing too, why do people state that like movies need to be absolute godlike works to enjoy it. It resonated with me so nicely, like I’ve never felt so flipping whimsy and light after watching a film, and it didn’t feel forced either. Like that was genuine inspiration bro. I love space, and I love thinking about all the wacky possibilities that it could hold, and Elio was literally that with cool colours. It brought back my fascination with the universe and I never realised how much I’d suppressed it thinking it was pointless. It’s actually very fun. The scrapped version of the movie looked very good too, if not better, and I do get the disappointment of it not pulling through (I need the full movie pls). BUT. The current version still does hold a weird special place in my heart, and it made me a little sad to see it so hated, and also very sad realising I may never be able to share how touching it was for me without sounding like an uncultured lune (in which, I really might be).
