Washing your genitals is optional?

I usually lurk on this site late at night when I can’t sleep and read the posts. I’m really confused why so many people on here seem to be against washing your genitals and using soap. Is there something I am missing? What is behind the anti-soap sentiment? I kind of find it cruel to go outside in public in the dead of summer with unwashed genitals. But maybe I’m old fashioned.
