What bothers me is when I see a font that is supposed to resemble the segments of a digital clock, and some of the characters have segments in positions that would not have segments in a general purpose display.
A general purpose segmented display digit, if all of the segments are lit, normally resembles a boxy 8 for a number only display, or a British flag that is turned on it's side in the case of alphanumeric. I know there are many other kinds, but I'm talking about the two most common general purpose segment display types, the ones these fonts try to emulate.
If you are designing this kind of type face, print out a picture of the actual display you are trying to mimic, with all segments lit, and make sure all of the characters in the font follow those segments. anonymousComputers July 03, 2025 at 6:04 pm20
