I did a little research on the dropping of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in 1945 and the one angle that many seem to miss is that those bombs actually saved lives…. Both American and Japanese. If Truman hadn’t authorized their use the war between the allies and the Japanese would have raged on even longer and Japan would not have sued for peace. People don’t like to acknowledge it, but the atomic bomb ended the second war earlier than it would have otherwise ended and I’ve read estimates that upwards of 200,000 lives were spared as a result. Feel free to do your own research…. Perhaps you will find differently.

I can't recall the Japanese ever facing allegations of war crimes. Correct me if I'm wrong. But you're right though, atrocious acts were committed during the second world war just as in every war since and every war prior. There's nothing civil about war.

Many people suffered after the bomb. They pay injured with maggots because there was not enough people to help them. That is a hard pill to swallow. The world and the people in it have done many horrible things to others and their own. Still we do not learn and continue to hate and hurt.

Up until the Bomb, total war was the norm of humans. Now, continual war on a smaller scale is so common that we have become used to it. The enemy and the location changes, but the war continues constantly. The "barbarians" are not at the gate anymore, they are among us. In our population, our government, in our Churches, your neighbor, your neighbor's kids. The killing continues every day, only not with just guns. Knives, hammers, cars, bare hands, baseball bats, and everything hard can kill. Recently, a woman knocked her husband unconscious, then with her sharpened nails tore his genitals off and watched him bleed out on their marital bed. She had fractured his skull, so everytime he came close to consciousness, she hit him again with doubled fists.
So, violence happens even without any weapons. Trying to just ban guns is worthless, wasted time. An old Muslim saying that a running man with a sharp knife can kill a thousand people in one night is becoming so true. We must turn into a mature society, settle our differences with words, not weapons. Everything from a rock to a bomb is a weapon used to kill. You just cannot outlaw everything used historically to kill. Every human needs something to defend themselves from killing attempts. Nations are like individual humans, they have a history and beliefs just like individual people. Japan's "Bushido" belief caused them countless, useless deaths, dying for their Emperor was considered to be an honor, not a useless act. That was their way for centuries! It was so instilled into their minds that they could commit ritual suicide to atone for their smallest mistakes. This is what we faced when 7 December 1941 took place. This happened when the Japanese envoys were still negotiating in Washington, DC. A shameful thing. It is a wonder the whole Japanese diplomatic staff didn't commit seppuku (?), or the slang "hara-kiri", for the delays they made by not declaring war on the time they were told to do so. By making this mistake, they condemned their race to a form of destruction never seen on the face of this Earth. I inherited a family sword from my late Father, and got curious about Japanese culture. So, I studied it. As long as Japan stayed in isolation, they were safe. Becoming a world power, losing their isolation, their trusting powers of negotiation caused their Country so much punishment, so much suffering, had we accidently destroyed the royal family, we would still be fighting them today. They would have never surrendered unless by word of their Emporer that they could endure the unendurable. Had we had to invade the home Islands, we would have lost over 1.5 million men, and who knows how many Japanese would have died. Millions uncounted. We even had a third bomb ready to be used, directly on the Palace in Tokyo. The pieces were in transit to Ulithi Atoll when Japan finally surrendered. The 509th Bomb Group (Composite) was readying a third B-29 on Saipan to fly the mission. Each plane could be used only once due to the absorption of radiation from each detonation. So a third plane was going to be used. Like the others, the third plane was being stripped of all armor, guns, and added "Tokyo Tanks" for the added fuel needed for a round trip without having to stop at any other island, especially a field in Russia.
Now, Japan is a close friend to the United States, for their own protection from Russia and Communist China. We will be honored to fight with them, not against them. BUT, we will never forget 7 December in relation to future conflicts with other Countrys like Communist China, North Korea, or Iran or any other muslim Country. We will be watching you. A launch against our Country, and 20 minutes later, the war would be over. And the whole human race will die. Remember that.

^ Sir, I think you are conflating Total War with Conventional Warfare. Total War is where Civilians and Infrastructure are thought of as valid Targets. Conventional Warfare is fought on a Battlefield.
