I don't really care that people do it I guess, but I don't like it when I'm browsing the web and all that comes up are cosplay pics semi or not at all related to what I am looking for. I just hate that. It wasn't always like that. It's not just cosplay now. Go on youtube and search star wars. If you want to watch a quick scene from the movie, good luck. It might be there, but it's drowned in tons of animated versions, lego, claymation, edits, gags, skits, reviews etc. etc. Ok I'm done.

Well I mean I cosplay. Sometimes. I have a couple I'll go to cons in every now and then. But I do agree that some cosplayers get way too into it. Ive had someone grab my butt just because the character I was cosplaying was in the same anime he was cosplaying from. AND IM 15!! Cosplay is an artistic way to express yourself but if it's the only thing you spend your money on and think about, there's a problem. The only things I don't approve of regarding cosplay are furries and people who think there are no more rules just because ur in a costume. And u can't tell me all of it is weird when people like SSSniperwolf and other famous people on YouTube with MILLIONS of fans do it for fun just like everyone else. ?? it's perfectly fine as long as no one's taking it too far.

Places like Comic Con and other conventions are really addictive and a form of escapism from the real world. Thats the whole beauty of the cosplay commuity but I do admit that it does go far to the point where people spend $1000 upon dollars on resources to craft their work together just to show it off and have their pictures taken. all that effort for the public to give you that attention isn't really worth it though since they only admire the presentation instead of getting to know the real you behind the mask. As a grown man, I would find myself spending money on useless toys just to use them as props for my character and it does say something about your life. There is one thing for sure with cosplay and is that it has helped me with my self confidence as you dress up and walk around in outside public while everyone staring at you wondering how weird you look so it does bring you out of that comfort zone

Here are these pretty girls coming to conventions in form fitting latex or in underwear. The guys look and gawk at them because they will be very pretty and they are leaving little to the imagination. I don't mind getting cock teased but this is ridiculous when it is in public. Thank you so much for making a discussion like this!! I've seen and heard how many cosplayers act, and yes it is true that they are self-absorbed outcasts who need therapy. The "cosplay phase" is just as cringy as the emo phase, or the goth phase, hipster phase, and so forth. Why spend so much money to dress up as someone you're not? Just for the praise? Do you hate yourself so much that you'd be happy getting praise from other people for acting like someone you're not? All the money they spent on their millions of wigs and costumes, they'll regret all that money wasted when they grow out of their weeaboo dress up costume play phase. They're so cringy and self absorbed, and really just need people who will support them for being themselves instead of pretending to be someone else. Also cosplayers are the reason why I avoided many fandoms (including voltron) and got out of many as well. Cosplayers ruin my favorite animes and it's so annoying seeing them wanting attention for dressing up as your favorite character when all you want is drawings or pictures of your favorite character instead. For those of you who say it's an enjoyable hobby, so are drugs and drinking, all of which have consequences that outweigh the temporary high. Instead of making or buying costumes, buy yourself some clothes from local stores and put that money towards the bills, food, shelter, car, etc. And learn to love yourself for who you are instead of running away and masking yourself by putting on that costume. I'm sure many people would love to be friends with the real you, not the one you pretend to be, just to seem "cool" by the other weeaboos online. All those followers and attention you receive for cosplaying aren't your real fans. Your real fans are your friends and family who want to see you succeed in life, not the other weeaboo cosplayer on the other side of the screen.

My biggest gripe with cosplayers is how much floorspace they use during a convention, I attended Comic-con last week and each and every aisle is congested enough, add a cosplayer and you have madness, they literally will completely stop the flow of any aisle just so people can snap photos of them, I see this as extremely narcissistic behaviour, at such a large convention it would be ideal if cosplayers were not allowed to stop the foot traffic of any aisle they happen to be in, if they are outside or in the lobby u have no problem with them, but when you're already dealing with a super large crowd it can easily become a nightmare, a few of my friends actually left the convention because their kids and them were so overwhelmed by the crowds and all the congestion cosplayers bring with them, also a lot of them (not all) have attitude problems where they get upset if you happen to touch their costume by accident, if you don't want people to touch your costume don't have a 10foot wingspan. At Comic-con they have the Masquerade which should be sufficient space for them, however they insist on contesting the floor and chasing away people that do not want to deal with them.

People really need to stop hating on people cosplaying. It’s their choice they’re not forcing you to take pictures of them or watch their videos. Also for some people cosplay isn’t just “dressing up” it’s a way to feel more confident and embrace something they love. No cosplay may not be “original” since you’re dressing up as someone else’s character, but a bunch of people make their costumes themselves. People spend time and money on this and they aren’t gonna stop just could some people think they are “too old” or “not nerdy enough”. IF you don’t like cosplayers literally just don’t talk to them. Also keep in mind that not every cosplayer is an adult wear a “silly costume” as people have said. Some of them are children or teenagers.

Does that also mean you have a thing against Halloween when adults and children decide that they want to dress up as a character that they love and have fun for a day? Some of us love going to conventions because it allows us to have fun being childlike for one day/weekend AND it gives us a chance to meet other people who are just as passionate about an anime and a character that we are. I do not go to conventions or events just to get pictures and advertise myself, I go to walk around, see what's what and enjoy some panels and buy some things that I might not find anywhere else. But if someone approaches me and asks for a picture I will not turn them away. And yes, the people who do ask other cosplayers for pictures probably spent a lot of time asking themselves if they should or should not approach the other cosplayer, and it takes courage to do so in this community. Sometimes one bad cosplay experience really affects a person's self confidence, and by telling a person like this that they should not enjoy what they do is almost like telling them that their life is worth living - it could really send the wrong message to their minds.

I cosplay. I am happy. I love my self and my friends. Yes I dress up. But if you think all cosplayers are bad please read this all the way through.
1. Not all female cosplayers or cosplayers of any gender want to do it to get attention. Yes are there some more mature cosplays, because there are more mature fandoms. Minors should not be indulging in 18+ sexual content for their safety anyway. No cosplayers should use cosplay as a reason to walk around in extremely revealing and inappropriate cosplays.
2. Are there people who use cosplay to be dirty, gross, and to be sexual. There will always be toxic people who do that no matter what. There are even pg and pg-13 fandoms being turned toxic by adults and even MINORS that are being sexual ether because it’s “cool” or for their own reasons.
3. The reason a lot do people cosplay is because they are not confident as them selves. You can say, “make better firends”. It’s not always that easy. You might be stuck in a/multiple toxic relationships. Also your family might not except you so cosplay is an escape from that. You might also cosplay to show support of a fandom, a character, ect. For the most part when people who are in cosplay or surrounded by it they are happier and to be honest all you should want is for people to be happy.
4. I know it may seem weird to see that highschooler dressed up as an anime character but but not all cosplay is anime/manga based. This is easily a common misconception from the community. You can cosplay from Star Wars, comics, cartoons, ect.
5. I know this is long but thank you for reading this. This is most likely THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IM HERE TO SAY SO LISTEN UP!!! *sigh* It is a hobby. As someone else here said, “cosplay is a hobby like drinking and drugs, there is a temporary high.” Yes you are right. Cosplay, drinking, and doing drugs all are hobbies. But so is being a sports fan and going to games. A sports fan might paint their face and wear a jersey for their sports team, while a cosplayer might wear a wig and costume to support a character or fandom. I know it can be annoying when you want to find a clip from the Avengers movie and have to scroll through a bunch of cosplays tutorials, skits, and what ever else is out there. But if you think about it you are connecting to the fandom just by being interested in it, therefore you are connecting with cosplayers, nerds, fan artists, animators, and anyone else in the fandom. If you share the same interests as someone why would you attack them?

1. Cosplay is not more important then your bills, your sleep schedule, weather or not you eat.
2. Cosplay shouldn’t be the only thing in your life. Have a job. If your in school work on school work and study. Make friends, not online ones, but ones at school or where ever. Make friends with people who have the same interests as you, but also make friends who have different interests as you.

Sometimes I do end up feeling as if some cosplays don't feel right, but of course that's normal! Usually, in anime consplays, its quite strange to see the anime character being portrayed in the real world. But it's pretty fun to wear the costume yourself ya' know? I've tried on cosplays with good friends of mine and we had a blast (rip, I dunno what to put instead of 'blast' I apologize for the cringiness)

So I guess all that matters if cosplay makes the people who wear it happy, and I don't think that anyone elses opinion can change that.

I understand not liking cosplay but, you are all overreacting. I personally like making armor, swords, outfits, wigs, etc.. Any cosplay Item you can think of for myself. I will sometimes sell my stuff at cons but, not often. However, I never take pictures, videos or really anything of my cosplays unless I do it for myself and for no one else to see because, I'm also a photographer. I enjoy taking a nice looking picture. Just like how people sometimes just take selfies because, they like just taking pictures when they look nice. I don't do it for attention, I don't do it to be sexualized, I just cosplay because I like making costumes and wearing them; think halloween but, on a normal day. I know many cosplayers who don't use social media because, they don't want to or simply, don't want attention. I cosplay the same reason people make their own clothes: Because it's fucking fun. I like the makeup, I like hand making the weapons (with real blades by the way), I like sewing dresses or suits or costumes, I like making armor out of metal (or foam for long term wear). I don't do it for attention (I have horrible anxiety and I cannot stand being given attention), to be sexualized (Ew, consent, and I'm married), because I want to be that character (that's dumb, You can't be a fictional character), I do it because I like making stuff with my hands and wearing costumes in my free time. It's that simple. Not my fault you all are insecure incels with no intelligence whatsoever. I am an 32 year old man who is married with a job who makes a fair profit from what I do. Who gives a fuck that people spend money on this? That is their choice. You don't control what people buy. You aren't their financials advisor and you don't make choices on what they decide to spend their money on. That is their choice.

We know we won't look completely like an anime character, we know we can never be that character, that's not what we're trying to achieve. We just wanna dress like characters we like. I don't hate cosplay. I hate cosplayers. I hate when they cut me off on social media. I feel worse because my support and efforts to support them is threatened. I felt left out, ghosted, ignored in conventions even tho I just wanted to say hi and take pictures. It's fucking awkward and I hate awkwardness to the max. If I really want them out of my life. The point of cosplay is the same point as fashion: There is no fucking point, the point is somebody wants to, so back the fuck off. It's the same reason people do a whole lot of dumb shit, they want to. So what if it's weird, so what if it's a fetish, let them be. I hate furries beyond human comprehension and yet I don't think they should deny their freedom. I think they are stupid dumb fucks who's entire life is either sitting in front of a computer on discord or living with their parents under the pretense of their extreme autism. I also don't think its right to right to tell them that, and make it my business what they do with themselves. If you want to go fuck in cringy fursuits, as long as I don't have to hear about it, see it, smell, it, whatever, I don't give a fuck. You do you, and I'll silently think your a fucking retard. It's the same deal with Cosplay. I don't think Cosplayers are on the same level of pure Autism as Furries, at least they are human, but I do think it's kinda dumb, and very cringe. Despite that, it's not my business, because in the end I don't really have to care. If it's coming up on Social Media, just ask YouTube or whatever to stop recommending those channels. You'll stop seeing it. Than you don't have to give a fuck.
