Gullible Eight

Eight Senate Democratic Caucus members crossed over and voted with Republicans to advance a deal to reopen the government. So that's on them, they did what they did, but getting affordable health care back on the table was nowhere in this "deal" they've reconciled themselves to go along with, even though it was struck with proven liars and deal breakers. The big "get" from the Republicans they are touting: A promise of a future vote in mid-December on and extension bill for ACA subsidies from Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

But see the thing is, these gullible Eight are counting on their republican counter parts the majority of whom have practically made it their raison d'etre to get rid of ACA since its inception, with ironically in this case one lone Republican John McCain saving it in one crucial vote a while back in 2017. Trump's hate for him doing it was displayed when he requested the USS John S. McCain's named be covered so he could not see it when on a State Visit near to where it was docked at port in 2019.

Now, everyone knows it is Trump whose actually calling the shots among the Republican Congress. Thune's got no real sway of what will come up for vote or not, it's all Trump's call, and he wants ACA gone. Over in the House Speaker Mike Johnson another Trump toady has refused to swear in a new member who would be the deciding vote to release the Epstein Files, and has put the House on extended vacay since September 19th to avoid it. Can't wait to see how he's going to avoid it since they'll have to come back to vote when/if this "deal" that comes out of the Senate.

Those Eight Democratic Caucus Members had better not be holding their breath waiting for that ACA subsidy vote. The cruelty of the high premiums is the point. It's all part of their plan to destroy the ACA, with no other plan from them on tap BTW. The higher premiums will lead to healthy people opting out of being insured which spikes the premium costs for those left insured even higher. Hospitals will have to charge more to insureds to cover treating uninsureds, causing more health cost pain to be reflected back on ACA. Republicans would rather kill ACA by a thousands cuts, if they can't manage to vote to abolish it, than actively work with Democrats to try and perfect it into what it is supposed to be, Affordable Care for all US citizens.

The ACA subsidies are permanent and still in place. The subsidies you are referring come from Covid era subsidies which were new in 2020. Under ACA my healthcare premium is $2000/Month, nearly tripled. ACA was never meant to be affordable; it was meant to topple the Health Insurance industry and be replaced by single payer. If you think our health system sucks, just wait for Government run Health... a total nightmare for all but it's all part of your liberal "religion" so no sense arguing

ACA is basically a clone of President Nixon's Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) that got tabled by Watergate, not some liberal concept. (Watergate seems so quaint with the fuckery going on in the WH today.) Since the Republicans can't get their shit together and finally come up with an ACA alternative like that they've be saying they would for seems like forever now, they can just take fellow republican Nixon's and call it a day. But, then that would mean they'd have to do actual work, together with democrats, to fix the problems instead of letting the problems metastasize like they've been doing with ACA while using it as political fodder.

A huge part of rising healthcare is the consolidation of healthcare systems. Our healthcare system merged with Atrium and before they could get all that signage changed over they merged again with Advocate 2 yrs later, so now you can only find the Advocate name in fine print mostly. The health insurance companies are doing the same thing, and now the health systems & health companies are colluding with each offering health plans that only allow you to go to their in-network partner health system with absolutely no coverage for out-network. Out-network is totally out-of-pocket doesn't count count at all to your maximum out-of-pocket. Here its been Atrium/BCBS.
