I am so sick of the "we are turning off our comments because its just too hard for us" bullshit. If you hate your users enough to silence them, then why are you running a god damn webpage to begin with? And using "everyone else is doing it" as some excuse is even worse. So basically #1 you are ok with the fact that EVERYONE is being silenced and funneled into controlled sites like reddit and quora and #2 you don't care that you are silencing all your viewers by taking their voice away.

and none of these companies even bothered to ask or poll us to find out how NOT OK it is. What's worse is people can't even complain about it? Why? Because "Almost Everywhere" there is no place to even disagree with it. Individuals are easy to shut up over an email, just don't write back. Comments expose your articles to criticism. By not allowing any feedback you are basically saying you can't possibly let people have any opinion on what you have just said because you are afraid someone might make you look bad or prove you wrong.

Submit a 'suggestion' then? hah, that's real funny, half the time those submission logs are sym-linked to /dev/null and never even saved and if they aren't they are sitting in some unread inbox on some hardly used secondary admin email account.
