DEVELOPING A HABIT I DETESTED GROWING UP

DEVELOPING A HABIT I DETESTED GROWING UP

After so many toxic relationships, I finally have someone who truly loves me, is patient with me and does everything right, but I can't seem to let go of the tiniest things they do wrong (I grew up with a narcissictic mother and an avoidant father, both carrying their own generational trauma which they project onto me) and at times I tend to overreact. I am afraid that this habit of mine is going to cost me something wonderful. I try not to 'overthink', yet I end up criticising my partner like my mother did to me which fucked me up considerably.
My partner tries to help, but I don't think they really can and its upto me to rectify myself.
I just want to know that I am not alone struggling with habits I hated growing up but also subconsciously picked up along the way.

It might be time to get some therapy because otherwise you might inadvertently continue the cycle of abuse with your partner

Yep, the most significant battles in life are fought within oneself...the fact you have recognised this and have accepted is part way to learning to rectify it and learn a new way.

I wish you luck and I hope that you can overcome this issue for both yourself and your partner.
