Support legal abortion

I can already see the comments now. Most are going to see the title and not even read this, just jump to the comments and scream like a cat in heat. Just stick it out until the end.
Want to minimize (let's face it, you're never going to abolish it) abortions? Be an ally to women, not an enemy. Learn about what abortion is before taking a side, but be opened to legalizing it regardless. Why? Because opposing it will only end up with more lives lost. Women have died due to complications with pregnancy when denied an abortion. Not only that, but who exactly are you to say no for others to have one? By saying no, you put more people at risk than you realize and you still have blood on your hands, if not more.
Let's face it. No one cares about the unborn once they are born. They just move on to the next unborn fetus 'in danger'. I see the pro-life movement screaming anti-abortion, but very little of them think about why a woman would choose one over bringing a baby into the world past 'oh, she just wants to be selfish'. To that, I respond how selfish do you have to be to make claim over someone else's body for something YOU want them to do? That is not your territory no matter how much you try to convince yourself it is. Reality is a bitch. Half the time, you won't even know an abortion has happened until the woman comes forward with her story. You might not even know a woman was pregnant, to begin with.
Anyway, my point is, if you are pro-life, you're going to have to give back if you're going to take something away. Put programs in place to make it more attractive to bring that baby to term. Support contraceptives, birth control, etc. Fix maternity AND paternity leave. Show them that there will be less of a financial struggle. A good portion of women doesn't get abortions so they can go back out and party. They do it because they know they wouldn't be able to give the baby a stable life. Either the guy is MIA or he's struggling as well. True, many have done it but there are those who can't.
For those of you who think they shouldn't have had sex to begin with, also not your problem unless you want to help raise awareness with actual, factual sex-ed available to everyone. Our sex-ed (if there even is any, there wasn't a class in my high school) fucking sucks. There is so much misinformation flying about that it's no wonder teenage pregnancy is what it is. Sex is more than making babies. It's couples intimately bonding, something more relationships could probably use.
The Pro-life side does not realize that if a woman wants an abortion, she's going to find a way to get it and they cannot stop it. It's akin to suicide prevention. Even with things in place, people can and will kill themselves. Women will die from botched abortions. Some may even kill themselves if they feel trapped. Hormones make people do things they wouldn't normally do as it is.
Pro-lifers have no business criminalizing it either. Those who bring such disgusting bills before the courts should be taken outside and beaten for it. Anyone for these bills should pay all court expenses that come with it as well as the payouts for women who have had natural miscarriages who have been humiliated by these bills. Trust me, there have already been cases and there will be more. Much more.
Adoption and foster care are often talked about but it's not ideal either. There's still a middle ground where children have to wait until they find a GOOD home. It's also essentially tossing an unwanted child into a system where anything can happen to them. I would hope it's a good situation, but friends and siblings who have been through it have reported some horrific things, making me wonder if it's such a good option. And don't get me started on how abused child service workers are. Because they're so spread thin, they either drop the ball on certain cases where children are maimed or killed or try to take shortcuts as they did during my parents' divorce. We need to fix these services before we worry about the unborn. We need to take care of what is already here.

If you're pro-life, say you will not get an abortion for yourself and GENTLY encourage others to keep theirs. Standing outside of clinics screaming like banshees are not winning anyone over. In fact, it's making you look worse to those who are still on the fence. DISTANCE yourself away from elitists. Show that they don't represent you or your cause. Each movement has them and can break your hard work.
Don't spread misinformation either. I have seen hell houses and have either laughed hysterically or wanted to vomit for their stupidity and scare tactics. These women are scared enough as it is. Scared for themselves. Scared for the POSSIBLE life (miscarriages happen, deal with it) they could bring into the world. Just scared all together. With some of the bills that are being passed now, they are even scared of miscarriages happening and being punished for something that is out of their control.
Become an ally for these women, not an enemy. They don't want to feel like all you care about is the fetus. Their life should come first no matter what and they are the ones who need help. It is no one's decision but hers with what happens to the fetus. Abortion is a very difficult choice. It's not something that women immediately go for without serious thought. I would never have an abortion because I don't ever plan on getting pregnant with how the world is today but I would never step in the way of someone who has made that difficult decision for themselves. Only they know what is best for them. If you are not their mother, lover, family member, friend, etc., your negative opinion might not even matter all that much to them.
