Social media and fandoms are not my thing, to put it lightly. I used to be into it as a teenager, and I'm so over it that it weirds me out when I see fanatics online. I get it, they're just "having fun" (except when they're being toxic), but even the fun of it irritates me. It grosses me out. That's why I left social media years ago, because, though I don't care what they do, I just don't want to see it anymore.
So what's up with Spotify? Why does it encourage and promote weird short form fandom content when you search for a song? I was looking up a Japanese song that I like, and this song was just added to a popular anime-style rhythm game. The first thing to come up isn't the song... It's a 2 minute "podcast" episode with the most annoying all-caps shipping jargon followed by a snide "can (character name) stfu" in the displayed description. Funny thing is, I also like the ship in question, but who wants to see other people being a freak about it? Or being a dick about what they don't like... And on Spotify of all places.
It's whatever. Letting it out here actually made me feel a bit better. But I do think Spotify should clean that up. It's a strange place to promote content like that when it's known as a music streaming platform. The music should be the first thing to come up, not someone's Twitter/X post.
