I went to a hair salon tonight to get my hair done after ages. My hair was worked on by Japanese. One of them had very quaint Japanese mannerisms. I did not know that they still do the bowing in modern times. Very polite and civilized client service. My hair feels very smooth and bouncy now. I kind of felt uncomfortable getting my hair cut by a straight married man, so I kept cracking jokes to break the awkwardness. Luckily, he found my jokes funny. He was very professional.

It's part of their culture and tradition to bow. It shows respect and depending how low they bow depends on the status they bow to.
Your fucking stupid to think they don't do it in "modern times"
And uncomfortable by getting your hair cut by a straight married man... Wow.... Please stay under the rock you came out of... No regrets 7 days ago
^^ This dude, what the fuck, shut up dipshit not everyone is as cultured as you and I
Bowing is a tradition in almost all Asian Cultures, dating back thousands of years, which is why I can see the confusion, but unlike Western civilization, Asian Culture has mostly stayed the same over that time. We change customs a LOT, but they mostly keep theirs, which is also why most Asian cultures are less accepting of LGBTQAI+ movements, its all new, and they have their culture, which is historically straight. That's also why the Legal Age of Constent was 13 for a long time. It's not because people were perverts in Japan, but because many people didn't live long enough to be able to afford having kids past the age of 18. 13 was when you started having kids because you weren't going to live into your 30's. You needed to not only be able to have your kids, but raise them.
As for why a straight married man would make you uncomfortable, that does seem a bit odd, that is unless you are apposed to straight married men, in which case you might not like japan, because like I said, LGBTQAI+ Movements are not popular there, at least not as much as here in America.
