Friend borrows money and doesn't return it

This was probably my fault but it still pisses me off. A friend asked to borrow money from me last week Wednesday because they urgently needed it. I declined several times, saying I don't have a lot of money at the moment and will be needing it to pay for a transaction in the next week. They promised they can pay me back on Friday in the same week, since their parents are sending them money on the weekend.

I eventually decided to let them borrow and trusted their word because they have never given me any reason to doubt them prior to that. But days before Friday, they tried to ghost me and no longer replied. I ended up getting them in contact still because we have a lot of common friends. But now, they keep pushing excuses and telling me "tomorrow" and giving me lots of stories like their aunt got hospitalized, their parents haven't sent money yet etc. and trying to make me feel bad for them.

But an entire week has passed and I no longer feel bad for them. Instead, I just feel angry because now, I am the one in financial trouble because I couldn't pay my transactions in time. I'm so pissed. I really trusted them since they were a very good person during the time I knew them but now I feel so betrayed. Never lending anyone money again unless I'm willing to lose it oh my god

Make this a learning opportunity and report them to the Morality Police or the Terror Troops for being potentially dis-loyal to the empire and the glorious PROJECT. Make money (coupons) and get even.

oh yeah, never loan money, just give it to them. Honest people will give it back. Now, if these same people ask again say uh no thanks, you still owe me from last time and just move along. These are not 'friends' btw, tell them to go pound sand.

Call their mom? Tell them you'll find her on facebook? I lost a friend because she prefered to ghost me than repay 5$. Good friends won't even ask

Anyone who asks to borrow money doesn't want to be your friend anymore. Period. Dump them and keep the money in your pocket.
