"shoot your shot"

I can not think of a more retarded bit of modern slang than this.

I first heard it almost ten years ago. I was working at a shitty restaurant, and was in my early 20s. The coworkers were mostly a bunch of immature ass 18-19 year olds, and I felt like an old man around them because I just didn't fucking understand the shit they were saying or how they could be so immature.

One of the cuntrag douchers comes in when he's not even supposed to be there. He starts hanging out and bitching about his ex girlfriend and how she "ruined my senior year" all kinds of spoiled, petty, bullshit. He asks me if I have a girlfriend, and I mention liking someone but it's not official or anything. His response was like "hell yeah, shoot your shot" and I was just thinking like ughhhhh.

My interpretation of the phrase then was "fuck and go" pretty much. Now, I still hear retarded trashy young adults muttering the phrase with the same meanin, but it also seems to have been adapted by people much older. I hear like 40 year olds saying "shoot your shot" like it means to just take a chance, like "shot in the dark."

Slang is just fucking stupid.
