He called me a slut

I was at a small middle school dance and my friend saw her old crush and said she didn't want to talk to him. I asked her why and she said it's because he's an asshole. Then she told me he was talking behind my back with his friends. Apparently this boy who had never talked to, and never had a class with I called me a slut. He was being rude to my friend because she stood up for me. (she overheard and asked who he was talking about then she told him to stop because we're friends) I'm not a slut but I can't get over what he said. I acted like it didn't bother me when I was around her, but when I got home I cried. Should I beat the living shit out of this 14 year old punk?

Just ignore him. Small minds are amused by small things and retaliation might just make things worse. If there's no proof to stand by the rumour, then why be worried about it? I understand false rumours and stupid people can be unsettling, but letting it bother you and force you to fight might just make things worse. Just ignore the little shit and move on (what's he in your life, in either case? Just a stupid shit making false rumours - which, looking at it, might have been started by someone else with a personal vendetta).
